Yoga, in the western society, is usually considered an exercise. However, the benefits of yoga to the human mind, body and existence are far greater than is usually acknowledged. Along with Ayurveda, it was first mentioned in the Vedic scripts (the oldest sacred texts in India) around 5,000 years ago with the premise of shedding the ego through studies of self- knowledge, action and wisdom.
Unfortunately for most, society doesn't allow for complete dedication to such a life-style. However, beginning yoga, using certain techniques and dedicating a little time to practice can in fact, create a lot more time in our lives. It allows us to become much more focused, mindful and free from tension in our body. Which in turn affects how we react in certain situations, decision making and our general mood and attitude towards life.
Yoga, when used as a therapy, can help to realign the body, release tension, improve posture, increase flexibility and strength, bring balance and peace of mind.
The practice brings your awareness inwards, which our modern life-style doesn't usually allow. This enables us to become more in-tune with our bodies. Noticing where we are holding any tension or emotion, as well as allowing us to switch off from our day to day lives.
When yoga is practised regularly, it is said to rejuvenate the body and prolong life.
At Yogaveda Therapies I offer Hatha and Vinyasa yoga classes.
